There’s a reeeeeeally good chance you already know that the Blogger’s Quilt Festival is happening over at Amy’s Creative Side. This year, I’ve decided to enter my quilt “Exodus” into the Modern Category.
The idea for Exodus came to me when I viewed a piece of art in which it seemed that small pixelated fragments were moving away from the whole. I wish I could tell you what piece I was looking at — I’ve since tried to find it a number of times — unsuccessfully. But it inspired me (thank you, whoever you are!) and I thought it would be fun to apply the concept to a traditional nine-patch.
I created eight blocks, each of which had a different “escaping” square. In the final block, the middle square is missing, but if you turn the quilt around. . .
ta da!
If you’re visiting here from the festival and feeling so inclined, you can read more about Exodus (and my sad scorching mishap) here. Or, you can check out my last entry to the Blogger’s Quilt Festival. Orrrrrrr, feel free to take a peek around at some of my other finished quilts (winky-smiley face)!
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit me! Be sure to check out all of the awesome entries on display at the Bloggers Quilt Festival! I believe voting will open on May 22nd and will remain open until the 29th, so, still lots of time to soak up inspiration and show love to quilters from around the globe!
What a great modern quilt! Love the missing little square on the back – very clever!
I really love the movement in this quilt. I can see it as all the pieces coming to fit together, too. 🙂
I love the minimalism of this quilt, and that square on the back is just perfect!
Simple, but elegant. I love it.
I don’t think I’ve told how much this quilt has influenced my planning for future quilts. I’ve become more than a little preoccupied with the idea of movement in quilt tops as a result of reading about Exodus. Let’s hope that my quilty brain comes up with something half as awesome as this beauty!
So modern, so simple, so beautiful!
I like it very much!
Best of luck!
That is a seriously fun quilt. I love the square in the back. Perfect!

Love this quilt. How did you ever get the square on the back to line up with the quilt top? Amazing!
I love this, especially the simplicity and impact of the back! How did you ever get the backing to match up so perfectly with the front?
